Honor 10 Lite vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro: Which is the best smartphone? – Comparative

In the shadow of View 20, Honor has decided to release in early 2019 a lighter version of its former flagship, the Honor 10 Lite. It offers an interesting price / quality ratio, but unfortunately it is not the only one on the market to offer a convincing solution on this price band. Opposite, we find a Redmi Note 6 Pro, the worthy heir to his excellent predecessor. Xiaomi's range has been very popular with the general public and it may seem difficult for Honor to cut his thumbs up … But what is it really when you compare these two smartphones in depth? Using our detailed comparison, find out which one is the best.

Honor and Xiaomi are fighting a real battle over the price war. The two Chinese manufacturers are renowned for bringing entry, mid-range or high-end solutions to the market at a more affordable price than the rest of the competition. After the Honor Play against the Pocophone F1, or the View 20 against the Mi Mix 3, it's the turn of the Honor 10 Lite and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 to compete in a duel. One, a lighter version of a former flagship, and the other, a successor to a range that has already proven itself. Both have good arguments in their favor, but only one can emerge victorious.

                                Design: modernization efforts for Xiaomi
Suffix "Lite" requires, it is therefore a lighter version, and more precisely that of the former Honor jewel. However, this Honor 10 Lite is different from its big brother in every way, starting with its design. In reality, it looks suspiciously like the Huawei P Smart 2019 released a few weeks earlier. Indeed, we find the same format that holds well in hand, the same discrete droplet-shaped notch on the borderless screen, as well as the same glass back where all the elements are placed identically (impression sensor photo module, etc.), with the exception of the Honor logo instead of the Huawei logo. This is not necessarily a reproach, because the whole remains qualitative, but we would have liked a little more originality.

For Xiaomi, the successor of the excellent Redmi Note 5 offers a decidedly more modern design than the old model, to see a real change. Its format is refined by adopting the 19: 9 ratio, it offers slightly finer borders, while being influenced by the fashion of the notch of 2018. This last rather imposing, it is for the blow much less discrete than with our friends of Honor, even if it is justified by the integration of a double photo sensor in front. However, the report is not the same on the back of the phone: the two iterations are almost identical with the same double sensor on the top left and the fingerprint sensor placed in the same position.

Honor played the card of ease by copying the design of Huawei's solution, and it's a bit unfortunate. We therefore prefer Xiaomi who has made some efforts to make his smartphone more modern.
Screen: we want brightness!
The Honor 10 Lite opts for a 6.21-inch IPS LCD panel with a full HD + resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The screen is well made for this price range, it offers a high contrast and a pleasant color temperature by default, even if it is adjustable to your liking from the phone settings. The only downside: he suffers from a glaring lack of brightness that makes it very difficult to consult the smartphone in direct sunlight.
With the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, there is a slightly larger format than its challenger with a 6.26-inch IPS LCD screen, but with a smaller definition Full HD + 2280 x 1080 pixels. It must be said that Xiaomi well control its supply circuits to offer good screens in general. There is nothing wrong with this price segment: the screen is contrasted, it displays beautiful colors and especially offers good brightness.

Both screens are of a satisfactory quality for this price range, but that of Xiaomi wins this round thanks to its brightness which allows it to be consulted in full sun.
Software: Android 9.0 Pie native, what more?
The Honor 10 Lite runs Android 9.0 Pie with the EMUI 9 interface out of box. It is also a pleasure to find the latest version of the Google OS on a smartphone of this price bracket, because many manufacturers have privileged to update their flagships in the first place. So we find all the new features of this version, through the more intuitive navigation by gesture, the new menu architecture or the new icons, but also the many customization options specific to EMUI. We regret only the few occasional slowdowns that leave much doubt about the longevity of the smartphone.

As for Xiaomi, its Redmi Note 6 Pro is still running Android 8.1 Oreo with the famous interface of the Chinese manufacturer: MIUI. The user experience is very different since it is finally closer to what is done at Apple. Android aficionados will be disappointed not to find the famous application drawer, icons and folders are piled on the main screen and can be a problem for those who have a problem with the organization of the office. Nevertheless, it must be seen as a good transition for former iPhone users who today want to turn to Android.
Although Android 9.0 Pie is not yet deployed on all Xiaomi smartphones, the new version of the Google OS is nevertheless planned for the year 2019 on the Redmi Note 6 Pro.

Few smartphones in this price bracket offer the new version of Android, so it's a very good point for Honor. Nevertheless, we must not forget that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro will be updated soon.
Performance: the Kirin 710 is effective
By shipping the Kirin 710 combo with 3 GB of RAM, the Honor 10 Lite ensures more than adequate performance. Other smartphones from Huawei / Honor have made this choice (such as Honor 8X or Smart P 2019) and can not be contradicted. This configuration is perfectly on the road and offers a fluid user experience on a daily basis. In addition, it also allows to run some 3D games from the Play Store, all without heating too much.
However, this is not the same with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro. Even if the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 clocked at 1.8 GHz is a good SoC mid-range, we must admit that it is slightly exceeded in front of the new Kirin 710. It offers a perfectly fluid experience in everyday life, nothing to complain about it . However, it will do less well than its competitor on some games gourmet Play Store.

It must be admitted: the Kirin 710 brings a new breath of power for these smartphones offered at low prices and the Snapdragon 636 is clearly overwhelmed by the events.
Photo: a useless double sensor on the front
The Honor 10 Lite incorporates a dual 13 + 2 megapixel back sensor. It does very well when the optimal conditions are met, with bright, contrasting colors and a convincing level of detail. The IA mode is also particularly effective for optimizing the intensity of colors, even if the pictures lose some of their naturalness. Unsurprisingly, the low light pictures are disappointing, but nothing serious for this price range. There is nevertheless an effective portrait mode, even if the result is not extraordinary.
Its 24-megapixel front camera transcribes the details of the face, both indoors and outdoors, but with a smoothing of the skin that is a little too accentuated for our taste.

The Redmi Note 6 is recycling and borrows the double 12 + 5 megapixel photo module from its predecessor. As with the Honor 10 Lite, clichés in daylight are convincing with beautiful colors and a level of detail very satisfactory. At night, it's inevitably worse. The colors are more bland with a strong presence of noise on the clichés, but nothing alarming on this price bracket.
With its dual 20 + 2 megapixel front photo sensor, you would have thought it would make great selfies, but the reality is quite different. The addition of a second sensor has virtually no impact on the results, except for the fact of proposing a protruding notch.

Take beautiful pictures with the right conditions, it becomes almost a requirement in 2019 on mid-range smartphones. Both are doing pretty well at this level, although both have strong gaps in low light settings. However, we regret the second completely useless front sensor that only widens the notch of the Redmi Note 6 Pro.
Battery: the proud successor of the Redmi Note 5
The Honor 10 Lite is not considered a marathoner. Its battery of 3400 mAh gives him a correct autonomy that allows him to easily hold a whole day. It will encounter difficulties if it is too often requested (with a percentage that will melt quickly), but it has the merit of holding admirably well the charge in standby mode. So, it can (maybe) hold two days if you use it in a moderate way. Finally, its 10 W charging block allows it to fully charge in just under two hours.
Being the successor of the Redmi Note 5, this iteration of the famous Chinese manufacturer could not fail to excel at the level of autonomy. Thanks to its economical processor and its generous battery of 4000 mAh, it is able to easily hold two full days, even with intensive use of the smartphone. He is not as tough as the old model, but it is still a great feat against his challenger. The Redmi Note 6 Pro is compatible with Quick Charge 3, but unfortunately there is only a 10W charger in the box. It makes it possible to reach full charge in about 2 hours, which is as long as its opponent.

By the lineage of its range, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro had to win this duel of autonomy. On our test Viser, he held 10 hours while stack while the Honor 10 Lite held 8 hours and 3 minutes.
Conclusion: which is the best smartphone?
In this end of versus, the finding is fairly balanced between the two smartphones. The Honor 10 Lite has undeniable qualities, if only by its best performance, its photo part a bit above, or even to offer Android 9.0 Pie natively. However, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro retains the title of best value for money by being proposed under the 200 euros mark (30 euros separate the two smartphones). He offers a solution as complete as his opponent, but at a lower cost. Like it or not, it's often the first motivation to buy.
