The Nubia Alpha, a funny hybrid between the watch and the smartphone, is on display at the MWC 2019 and is entitled to a date of commercialization.
We knew that Nubia was planning to introduce a collapsible device at the MWC 2019. Everything seemed to indicate that it would be the Nubia Alpha, a cross between the smartphone and the connected watch which a prototype had already been presented at IFA 2018. To put it very concretely: this product is a kind of phone to wear around the wrist.
A watch with a big screen
The Nubia Alpha consists of a foldable 4-inch OLED screen that is 230% larger than traditional connected watches and wristbands. Inside, there is a Snapdragon Wear 2100 combined with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of storage. Its battery of 500 mAh promises a range of up to 2 days of "normal" use.
The OS that runs the machine has been custom designed by Nubia. The brand obviously explains that the operating system is perfectly intuitive, but it will obviously take at least a grip to get a first opinion on the issue. If our local teams in Barcelona have time to visit the company stand, they will be sure to share their impressions.
Note that the camera has a camera of 5 megapixels. A short press on the screen can immortalize an image while a long press records a video. Connectivity level, you need support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and eSIM 4G. In other words, you will have access to the Internet, calls and messages directly from Nubia Alpha.
Price and availability
The Nubia Alpha with eSIM will be sold first in China from April before arriving in Europe in the third quarter of 2019. The advertised price is 549 euros for the black version, and 649 euros for the 18 gold model. carats. There is also a non compatible 4G declination available internationally next April for 449 euros.
