The AOSMark platform assigns scores to Android builders for the quality of their software tracking. Behind Google, OnePlus gets the highest score while Samsung or Huawei are a low in this ranking.
On Android, the deployment of the latest updates is a recurring problem often criticized by critics of the mobile operating system Google. Each year, a new version of the OS is presented, but it still takes far too much time to deploy on the majority of smartphones.
Often, it is the manufacturers who are blamed for not deploying the latest versions of Android quite quickly on their devices marketed. In 2018, the Treble project did a little bit of good in this area, certainly, but the pace is still a bit too slow overall.
With this in mind, the AOSMark platform establishes a ranking of the best manufacturers in terms of speed of deployed updates. The site assigns a rating from 0 to 6. The higher the number, the more it means that the manufacturer offers long support for its smartphones.
With a score of 3.5, Google dominates the debates. The Mountain View company is deploying 3 to 4 major updates on its products according to AOSMark. But note the beautiful position of OnePlus with a score of 2.75, far enough above Nokia and Sony. As a reminder, the OnePlus 6 had received Android 9.0 Pie in "only" a month.
We will not fail to report the poor results of Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi. Attention, however, the classification of AOSMark has certain limits. The platform does not yet indicate how quickly the updates are deployed.
Also, it does not take into account the upgrades that it considers to be minor. Thus, a smartphone that goes from Android 8.0 to 8.1 will not be counted since the API level remains the same. Manufacturer interface updates such as MIUI, EMUI or Samsung Experience as well as security patches are also not included in the calculation.
AOSMark however remains an interesting resource to have a good idea of the good students who bring the latest versions of Android to their users.
HTC is entitled to its share of glory too
The site also dedicates some smartphones whose follow-up is particularly good. The HTC One Google Play Edition, Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL are at the top of this list, boasting 5 updates received since their launch.
The Essential Phone is also present in this appendix with three updates. Note that the manufacturer Essential is not listed among the best manufacturers and this can be explained by the fact that he has released a single phone.
