Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi Note 7, the first smartphone developed under an independent brand.
Do not call me anymore Xiaomi
This is an important event for Xiaomi, the brand Redmi is no longer a simple range of smartphones, but an independent brand.
Like Pocophone, Black Shark or Honor in the case of Huawei, this means that the brand's products will be able to get away from Xiaomi's habits, while taking advantage of its capabilities in terms of manufacturing or design.
It also means that Xiaomi no longer offers under its main smartphone brand at very low prices. In France, without the Redmi range, the cheapest Xiaomi smartphones would be Mi A2 Lite and Mi Max 3.
Redmi Note 7: 48 megapixels and Snapdragon 660
The new Redmi Note 7 has the heavy task of succeeding the previous excellent generations, such as the Redmi Note 5 which was one of our favorites in 2018. The manufacturer promises a nice update of the data sheet including a passage at Snapdragon 660, the use of a 48 megapixel camera and the use, finally of the USB Type-C.
6.3 inch Full HD + screen (water drop notch)
SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 660
3 to 6 GB of RAM
32 to 64 GB of storage
Double camera on the back
48 megapixels f / 1.8
13 megapixel front camera
4000 mAh battery
USB Type-C with quick charge 18W (Quick Charge 4)
We can not say that the design of the Redmi Note 7 is of a foolproof originality. The Redmi Note range is also rarely original. The smartphone incorporates an edge-to-edge screen with a drop-shaped notch, a dual camera on the back next to a central fingerprint reader.
The colors used strongly recall what Oppo or Honor can already offer.
Availability and prices
The Redmi Note 7 is only launched in China at the moment. Here are the announced rates:
32 GB / 3 GB: 999 yuan (about 130 euros excluding taxes)
64 GB / 4 GB: 1199 yuan (about 150 euros HT)
64 GB / 6 GB: 1399 yuan (about 180 euros excluding taxes)
Like its predecessors, we imagine that the smartphone will also be launched in France in the weeks, or months, to come.
