As expected, Sony unveiled a new smartphone lineup at MWC 2019. The Xperia 1 is its flagship successor to the Xperia XZ3.
Sony's announcements had unfortunately been leaked before the conference organized by the company at MWC 2019. The manufacturer has still formalized the features of its new range of smartphones, starting with its flagship, the Xperia 1.
Xperia 1 succeeds XZ2 Premium
Finished the Xperia XZ family for now, the new high-end smartphone from Sony has a name much simpler: Xperia 1. With the emphasis on the display, we can speak of a true successor of the Xperia XZ2 Premium launched in 2018.
A cinema screen in the pocket
As predicted by some leaks, the Xperia 1 has the distinction of integrating a 6.5 inch "CinemaWide" screen in 21: 9 format, with a definition of 3840 x 1644 pixels approaching the 4K UHD, and a slab OLED certified HDR BT.2020 (DCI-P3 at 100%).
To sum up all these features, Sony wanted to get as close as possible to the native format of a movie and deliver the best possible visual experience on a smartphone screen.
A smartphone is not just a screen. Here are the other features of the smartphone:
SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 855
6 GB of RAM
Android 9 Pie
imprint reader on the slice
3330 mAh battery
12 megapixel sensor 1 / 2.6 inch, 1.4μm, f / 1.6 lens with optical stabilization

The smartphone from Sony has all the features expected for a high-end smartphone in 2019, including the new chip Snapdragon 855 Qualcomm.
Availability and prices
The Sony Xperia 1 will be available in late spring at a price of 999 euros. It will be offered in white, gray, black or purple.
At this price, Sony is at the level of the Samsung Galaxy S10 +, in the very top of the basket on the market. By the time Xiaomi announced its Mi 9 from 499 euros in France, a smartphone that should still make more concessions than Sony.
