Uber and his partner Bell unveiled the air taxi prototype at CES 2019.
This is the Bell Nexus, Bell Helicopter's "Air Taxi" concept. It's not really a helicopter, but rather a hybrid-electric propulsion plane. Indeed, the Nexus will use six reclining fans to take off and land vertically from a roof or launch pad.
More importantly, it will be possible to call it one for city transportation using the new Uber Air Service in the not too distant future. We are talking about the year 2023.
For CES 2019, the founder of Bell mainly used the event to unveil his first concept. The Verge had the opportunity to interview him, we learn that the objective of this aircraft is to secure its occupants, especially for those who are not used to taking the helicopter. The prototype present at CES 2019 is a model of the cabin that will accommodate up to five people with a gross load of 272 kg.
It's not so early that flying cars will fly in our cities
The type of aircraft Uber is considering to transport passengers from one roof to another – electric, autonomous, able to take off and land vertically – does not exist yet, and the infrastructure required for such a service is not yet available. . Technical and regulatory hurdles have to be resolved before, so it's not so soon that flying cars will fly in our cities.
