In its new beta, WhatsApp is about to integrate a reverse image search system via Google Images. A way to fight against the proliferation of fake news.
The WhatsApp application is evolving regularly, often making minor changes that are not very visible. WABetaInfo has made its specialty to delve into each new version to discover all the news.
Looking deeper, the site has discovered an upcoming feature that is not yet available: reverse image search. By selecting an image, it becomes possible to search for it. Note that the function uses the Google APIs, so WhatsApp displays a message to warn the user that his image will be sent to the servers of the Mountain View company.
The anti fake news
This new feature is intended to facilitate users' searches during discussions and thus avoid believing fake news too quickly. Recall that the platform has been under the spotlight several times in some countries, particularly in India, where false information circulated in discussion groups, pushing some people to harass or attack innocent people.
The Facebook-owned messaging service therefore seeks to push users to take responsibility and verify their information.
Recall however that if WABetaInfo discovered this with version 2.19.73 beta of the application, this image search feature is not yet available to the general public and it could happen only in several months knowing that WhatsApp takes a long time to deploy updates, such as the dark theme for example.
