Why the Huawei P30 is more interesting than the Huawei P30 Pro

The Huawei P30 costs about 200 euros less than its big brother the P30 Pro officialized at the same time. It takes advantage of a less impressive technical sheet, but that does not matter, it is actually more interesting. Here's why.
The Huawei P30 left next to the Huawei P30 Pro right
The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro have been formalized. Here they are ready to face the Samsung Galaxy S10! Moreover, to see more clearly, we have already concocted comparisons between the P30 Pro and Galaxy S10 +, as well as a reminder of the differences between the last Huawei flagship, the Mate 20 Pro and the P20 Pro.
But the question that we will ask here is significantly different, since we will analyze why the Huawei P30 can be considered with more interest than the Huawei P30 Pro, even if 200 euros separate the two devices.

                                The essential is there
First, let's keep in mind that the Huawei P30 should not be underestimated: do not reduce it to an amputated P30 Pro. The phone does not sacrifice the essential features on a high end terminal. The AMOLED screen of the P30 is in fact equal with that of the Pro model and it also benefits from the fingerprint reader under the screen that gives it a certain premium look.
For the power? The two enemy brothers – the time of this article – ship a Kirin 980, the latest chip of Huawei's subsidiary HiSilicon. The same that equips Huawei Mate 20. With the naked eye, it will be difficult to feel the difference between the 6 GB of RAM of the P30 and the 8 GB of RAM of the P30 Pro. The latter is theoretically more powerful, it's true, but on routine tasks and games greediest, you will enjoy a high-flying experience, including Fortnite.

After, it is not excluded that thanks to its RAM supplement, the P30 Pro enjoys a better longevity. But, in short, it is important to remember that the main qualities are preserved on the P30.
Always versatile camera
Admittedly, the Huawei P30 camera is composed of "only" three sensors when there are four on the P30 Pro. But this does not prevent the classic model to preserve a great versatility in this area by alternating between conventional shooting, ultra-wide angle and telephoto.
The backs of Huawei P30 Pro and P30
Specifically, the P30 offers a hybrid x5 zoom instead of x10. For 200 euros less, we will excuse quite easily this detail. The other point to emphasize is that the TOF (Time of Flight) sensor of the P30 Pro gives it an excellent quality in Portrait mode. His little brother does not enjoy the same integration, but his Portrait mode is still very good. Again, taking the sales rates into consideration, we can not hold him rigorous.
Smaller, more convenient
The Huawei P30 has a 6.1-inch screen. We agree, it's a big diagonal. Nevertheless, the manufacturer managed to fit everything into a compact (149.1 x 71.3 x 7.57 mm) and lightweight (165 grams). The phone is therefore easier to handle and we know how much the small format users regret the time when a 5.5 inch smartphone was considered big.
This time is undeniably past, but the Huawei P30 can be a nice compromise for those allergic to big smartphones. On the design side, the smartphone looks a lot like the P30 Pro, but it does not have the same curved edges. Shocked and disappointed, some will go to lynch for this lack of taste and conspicuous black contours that surround his screen.

But the flat screen Huawei P30 has a major advantage: it allows the less adroit to avoid turning on an option by accidentally touching the edge of the screen. For comparison, here is what Maxime writes in his P30 Pro test:
The use is particularly frustrating when you start the camera, since my hand is naturally on the selection panel mode. Thus, it happened to me more than once to take a snapshot in night mode without wanting it, because of these accidental supports […]
Finally, the jack was graciously invited on the Huawei P30 while it was recalibrated on the edge of the Pro version. We'll end with a word about autonomy: the two smartphones are worth in terms of endurance. On our custom test protocol, the smaller of the two opponents of the day even held longer. Where the top model really stands out is its compatibility with wireless charging that we regret quite bitterly on the classic version.
Also, and this is probably one of the main drawbacks of the P30, it does not withstand a dip in the water as it is IP53 and non-IP68 certified.
200 euros
In conclusion, we can not deny that the Huawei P30 is less impressive. However, its price seems much more justified than the miraculous amount you will have to pay to buy the P30 Pro. The latter does not technically offer incredible evolutions compared to the Mate 20 Pro which preceded it.
Conversely, the P30 stands out with a seductive format and very few concessions, thus tending to prove that it is not particularly useful to invest 200 euros more to pass Pro.

Price and availability
Both smartphones are already pre-orderable. Count 799.99 euros for the Huawei P30 and 999.90 euros for the Huawei P30 Pro with 128 GB of storage and 1099.90 euros for the version with 256 GB.
