Why the Samsung Galaxy S10e is what I expect most on February 20

Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + on February 20. In addition to these two stars, a third more modest model is expected: the Galaxy S10e. But it is precisely this last that makes me the most of the eye. Here's why.

Nowadays, when a new smartphone is unveiled, it is immediately declined in several variants. Do not go so far as to say that this is a universal rule, but it applies very regularly. Here are some examples.
In addition to the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, there is also the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Lite. Same logic on the side of Xiaomi who, in France, marketed the Mi 8 Pro, the Mi 8 and the Mi 8 Lite. And at Apple, the iPhone XR adds to iPhone XS and XS Max. But today it is the market leader that will interest us.
Samsung is preparing to reveal the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10 + and S10e. The first two are probably born stars in the minds and eyes of hardcore fans of the South Korean brand. Yet this is the last city that catches the most attention and I tried to put my reasons in the following lines.

A real Galaxy S10
First thing to note is that Samsung adopts a policy similar to that of Apple. The iPhone XR was certainly worse off than the other two devices unveiled at the same time, however, it made no concessions on the embedded SoC. On the Samsung Galaxy S10e, we should find the same chip as on the classic and Plus versions, namely the Exynos 9820 engraved in 7 nm. On this model, the platform would be supported by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.
Starting from this observation, we can already be pleased to see that the Galaxy S10e is a Galaxy S10 in its own right. As a comparison, Lite versions of other manufacturers usually have a technical data sheet quite far from flagships with which they share their nomenclature.
The Samsung Galaxy S10e will necessarily have to make some concessions compared to the other two members of the trio – the suffix "e" would mean "essential". But before listing the things that should "miss" this model, let's first look at its strengths.
A "normal" size
Let's talk first about its size. While the Asian markets' appetite for phablets is pushing compact-format smartphones towards the exit, many European consumers complain regularly about devices that grow too big. It was a feeling that you had strongly expressed in one of our weekly surveys.
Admittedly, the Samsung One UI interface is perfect for more comfortable use of large slabs, but this is not a reason to forget all the users attached to the "normal" diagonals otherwise small. This is where the Galaxy S10e becomes relevant. I will not go so far as to say that its diagonal of 5.8 inches will make it a compact smartphone, but in view of current standards, it should propose moderate dimensions.

These ruminations of a practical nature lead us progressively to slightly more aesthetic considerations. On all the renderings that reveal it, the Galaxy S10e has edges more visible than its two congeners. Comparatively, it loses elegance, but this is far from being a real handicap. On the contrary, this phone seems to give a better impression of symmetry and it is nothing short of beautiful. Good enough to be considered a Galaxy S full.

Also, you will probably not miss watching the flat screen Galaxy S10e. The curved design is well inscribed in the identity of the high-end Samsung and undeniably contributes to its charm. However, a flat screen ensures that even clumsy people do not get bothered when using the interface elements near the side edges. In the end, it is bad for a good.
Fewer photo sensors … so what?
Apart from that, it should be noted that the Galaxy S10e will not be entitled to the triple photo sensor at the back and will have to be satisfied with a double formula. The main camera should rise to the same level as the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + while the second would be an ultra-wide angle. The impasse would be made on the telephoto lens. It is a practical feature that will have to be deprived, but it is not a key feature either.
In addition, the Galaxy S10e should be content with a single sensor in the front, which is anything but a drama. As for the fingerprint reader, he will not hide under the screen, but will lodge on the edge of the smartphone. Personally, it makes me a beautiful leg.

The shadow on the blackboard
The only thing that worries me a little bit about this Samsung Galaxy S10e is the capacity of its battery that would turn between 3000 and 3100 mAh according to the latest rumors. It is quite difficult to predict whether this will be enough to provide really satisfactory autonomy. If endurance is not at the rendezvous, there will probably be the real big defect of this phone. For comparison, we expect a 4100 mAh battery on the S10 +.
I will have to wait until the officialization of the products, and especially until we can test them, before giving free rein to my enthusiasm. We arrive at the end of this paper, but you will notice that I have not yet touched on one essential question: the price.
Moderate price if not small
The Samsung Galaxy S10e will be a high-end smartphone. Alas, at the leader of the mobile telephony, this is necessarily accompanied by very high introductory prices. It is no surprise that we learned that the device should cost 749 euros in the Netherlands and 779 euros in Italy – in France, the taris should be in the same range. This represents a large sum of money.
At the same time, it remains a much less impressive amount than the tariffs anticipated for the Galaxy S10 and S10 + which should be launched from 999 euros in the Netherlands. The "essential" version would represent a high-end quality without its price flies to distant heights. Add to this that the value of Samsung smartphones drops quite quickly after their first months of marketing and here is a device that should finally be relatively accessible.
In other words, the Samsung Galaxy S10e could be a good deal in 2019. See you on February 20 to discover these new smartphones.
