YouTube wants to improve search on its Android app with voice-activated navigation. In a new update, it is possible to directly request access to certain sections of the service.
YouTube, an essential platform of video content, evolves over time, both in its web version and in its mobile version. The application has been updated recently in version 13.50.52 on Android and offers a new navigation feature.
The search field of the application has changed slightly. Not in its form, since it remains visually identical, but in the operation of voice search. By clicking on the small microphone at the top right, it is no longer the voice input window of Android that appears on the screen, but a new voice search interface specific to YouTube.
Old interface New interface
With this change, YouTube goes beyond simple voice input and adds a new "show me" command. It is thus possible to ask the application to show us our subscriptions, trend videos, or our history. A novelty that allows you to easily navigate to the voice within the application.
Say Google, you would not simmer something?
What is the point, however, in launching the search, then voice commands to ask YouTube to show us the trend videos or our subscriptions, accessible by clicking on the corresponding tab at the bottom of the homepage ? For the user who watches YouTube on his phone, absolutely none.
But then, why deploy such an update? Google has not revealed anything about it at the moment, but we imagine that this novelty actually targets users who are not on their smartphones. With this command, the application would make it easier to manage an ecosystem vocally.
Imagine asking your Google Home or Android TV to show trendy videos on your home screen and navigate the menus without touching your remote. This is already partially the case if you know exactly what you are looking for, but to go to some menus like your history, it is currently necessary to go through more traditional commands.
Deployment still limited
This new feature came with version 13.50.52 of the application. However, it seems that it still needs a server-side activation to enjoy. At FrAndroid, we do not yet have access to this feature, so it is possible that a regional restriction will restrict the use of this new navigation in the United States at this time.
