The most recent tech
The OnePlus 8T features the most up-to-date tech available today. The OnePlus 8T features a 120Hz AMOLED display and the Snapdragon 865 chipset. It also supports 5G connectivity, fast charging at 65W, and Android 11. The OnePlus 8T should be your best choice if you are looking for one of today’s fastest smartphones.
iPhone 12 is a combination of a new design and the most powerful mobile chip in today’s market. Although the screen has a 60Hz resolution, MagSafe, which is an OLED panel, is amazing. The cameras are as good or better than Android and come with five years worth of software updates.
The line between Android (and iOS) is becoming more blurred than ever in 2020. Both Google and Apple have taken ideas from each other, with Android getting a lot of privacy and security-focused features this year, with iOS 14 adding widgets — an Android mainstay. You can also use iOS to access Google services. If you’re looking for a new smartphone and are having trouble deciding between the OnePlus 8T or the iPhone 12, this is what you should know.
OnePlus 8T vs. iPhone 12: Two very different design approaches
OnePlus is known for delivering new hardware features. The OnePlus 8T features a 65W wireless charging system, taking just 39 minutes to charge the 4500mAh battery.
Apple is taking a cautious approach to this matter, though. iPhones don’t usually get the latest and greatest tech — the iPhone 12 has a regular 60Hz screen — for a few years after their Android counterparts, but that doesn’t mean they miss out on hardware innovations.
Although the iPhone 12 is not flashy, it’s great for single-handed usage.
Let’s begin with the design. Smooth, flowing curves can be seen at the back of the OnePlus 8T. This is where the sides and mid-frame meet. A new camera housing makes it stand out. The sides have the same matte finish as the back and have thin bezels. Upfront, there’s a small hole punched cutout with thin screen bezels.
It is an iteration of the design that OnePlus used over the last 18 months, and the standout feature on the 8T is that it has a flat-display — unlike the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro. It is stunning with a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel that delivers excellent contrast and viewing angles. The 120Hz refresh rate makes it easy to scroll through social media and play games.
iPhone 12 features a muted design with a boxier look that is reminiscent of the iPhone 5. Although I initially didn’t love the iPhone 12, I started to like it after using it for a little over a month. It is easier to use and hold the phone thanks to the ergonomic design. The blue hue is also a great addition to this year’s phone.
The iPhone 12 has a large cutout at the front, and it does take some getting used to — particularly if you’re switching from an Android phone. The cutout has been reduced by Android manufacturers in the past two years. However, Face ID is the default authentication method for iPhone 12. This means that the feature requires a variety of sensors.
Although the 6.1-inch OLED panel of the iPhone 12 looks great, it lacks a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s not a big deal but the iPhone 8T has a higher refresh rate. While the iPhone 12’s panel is excellent, it appears that 120Hz panels will not be available until next year.
The iPhone 12’s large power button is a nice touch. There’s no 3.5mm jack on either device, and the iPhone 12 continues to use a Lightning port, with the 8T offering USB-C — like every other Android phone.
OnePlus 8T vs. iPhone 12: Software and hardware that is powerful
A14 Bionic powers the iPhone 12, the most powerful mobile processor in today’s industry. There’s also the new 15W MagSafe wireless charging standard that relies on magnets — which is really cool. The Snapdragon 865 is the core of the OnePlus 8T. While Qualcomm’s chipet may be fast, it’s not as powerful as the A14 Bionic.
However, there won’t be any noticeable difference in your day-to-day life. They can both handle day-to-day tasks and intense gaming seamlessly, so they should last many years. The OnePlus 8T is a great value with its 12GB RAM, 256GB storage, and excellent price.
The iPhone 12 has 4GB of RAM — which is more than enough for iOS — but the base model has just 64GB of storage. The 256GB option costs $979, $230 more than that of the 8T.
The battery life of both devices is excellent, lasting for over a day. The OnePlus 8T is a great choice for wired charging. It boasts a remarkable 65W fast charger tech, which takes only 15 minutes to fully charge your battery to up to 60%. You can charge the battery up to 60% in only 39 minutes. The wired charging technology fundamentally alters how the phone is used.
iPhone 12 uses a 20W wired charging technology. The phone has the Lightning port but the end of the cable is equipped with a USB connector. You will therefore need a USB charger for the iPhone 12. You will need a USB-C charging cable to charge the iPhone 12 because it comes without a charger.
MagSafe wireless charging is an innovative 15W standard for charging your iPhone. It uses magnets to ensure a snug fit. MagSafe offers a wide range of MagSafe-ready chargers and accessories. MagSafe also allows you to wirelessly charge your smartphone.
Software-wise, the OnePlus 8T includes OxygenOS 11. It is based on Android 11. OxygenOS 11, while it has a different visual style, is as easy to use in daily life as previous versions. This phone is among the most powerful Android smartphones available, with a large part of this being due to the software.
iOS 14 is available out of the box on the iPhone 12, and the iPhone 12 has many interesting additions to the software, such as widgets. iOS is known for its longevity in updates. With the iPhone 12, it will get at most five years’ worth of software updates.
OnePlus 8T vs. iPhone 12: Do you want to make a switch?
I have been using the OnePlus 8T for almost two months and love many things about it. Flat displays are better than the curved panels found on many Android flagships in 2020. The 120Hz AMOLED panel, however, is among the most impressive in the market.
Both options are great, but it all boils down to your choice of platform.
This phone comes with the latest Android version out of the box. It also has a 65W wired charger system. The best part is that it has 12GB of RAM as well as 256GB of storage. The 8T does not offer wireless charging, water resistance, or any other features, but it is a very attractive package.
The iPhone 12 also has many great features. You get the most powerful mobile chipset available, a more comfortable design, and a beautiful OLED panel. All the other features are included: 20W wired charging and 15W wireless charging via MagSafe. You also get five years’ worth of software updates.
Cameras are also outstanding, and the iPhone 12 easily outperforms the OnePlus 8There. While the iPhone 12 can take better photos in almost every lighting situation, the 48MP camera of the 8T doesn’t compare to the iPhone 12.
The iPhone 12 is the best choice if you are looking for a higher quality camera, long-term updates, and wireless charging. The OnePlus 8T is a great option if you are looking for a panel with 120Hz resolution and the familiarity that Android offers.
